Fake Bobbleheads

How do you tell if a bobblehead is fake?
There are several ways to tell if a bobblehead is fake. There are often paint differences between an original bobblehead and a fake bobblehead. Often times the fake bobblehead will be more or less glossy the than original bobblehead. However, the most telling sign of a fake bobblehead is the size. Fake bobbleheads are often significantly smaller than real bobbleheads.

When bobbleheads are made, the mold is slightly bigger than the intended size of the bobblehead. This is usually a 10% to 15% difference. A mold will make about 100 bobbles. Every mold is made from the master bobblehead, which is bigger than the intended size. During the process, the bobbleheads shrink. This is why the molds are slightly bigger. When people make fake bobbleheads, they use real bobbleheads to make their molds. These molds due not allow for any shrinkage during the process, and the fake bobblehead turns out to be 10% to 15% smaller than a real bobblehead. Be aware of another trick used by makers of fake bobbleheads. Often, they fake bobblehead will use a bigger spring than the original, so the head sits up higher. This gives the appearance that the bobblehead is the correct size, when in reality it is not.
